CHIROPRACTIC PHILOSOPHY AT DCS, ARE YOU EXPERIENCED?
CARPE DIEM
I have been in practice now for 25 years and I’m more fired-up about kiropractic than ever. I’m also more freed-up about telling the story. I guess as you get older, you seem to worry less about what people think. The biggest reason I’m so fired-up is that I continually stay dipped in the “tic” of chiropractic. I originally graduated with little or no philosophical education. It wasn’t until I attended Dynamic Essentials in the late 80’s, hosted by Drs. Sid and Nel Williams, that I got “The Big Idea.”
I have been running a philosophy group called the Dead Chiropractic Society in Newport Beach, California, since 1995. It started with two guys studying the green books and slowly blossomed into monthly meetings with 100 chiropractors and some of the best speakers in the profession. “You never know how far reaching something you may think, say, or do today will affect the lives of millions tomorrow.” From these monthly meetings, we have grown to host “The World’s Biggest Chiropractic Party,” the California Jam. The Jam is held in the amazingly beautiful Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa, CA, which is a wonder of architecture and sound. The Jam is like a Woodstock of chiropractic with a strong music theme and a great love for the world’s greatest profession. It’s a who’s-who reunion of some of the world’s greatest chiropractors. It’s a day to hang out with your beloved brothers and sisters, a day of love, motivation, philosophy, patient education, technique, etc…but it’s really just an event to help remove the barnacles that grow while living in an “allopathetic” world.
The California Jam is now a two-day event. We listened to you all and now we are offering continuing education credits (it’s hard to get some of you cave dwellers out). We have the most solid line-up of rock star chiropractors ever amassed. We will finish Saturday evening with a party and live music from a very popular rock n’ roll band to be announced later. The goal for the California Jam is to eventually attract the public to a wellness music festival with great music and the world’s best speakers on the cutting edge of real health care. Goals include filling stadiums and telling the uncensored story to 50k+ people at one time. “Build it and they will come.” We will not only attract thousands of new practice members, but also loads of young adults motivated to fill the chiropractic schools (real chiropractic schools).
Other reasons I have lasted 25 years in practice is that I live by one of BJ’s quotes, “Don’t take yourself too damn seriously.” I have heaps of fun everyday at the office with my people, I take quarterly vacations, and I see the world. I encourage you to take some time off, bring your family and your team to this amazing DCS Experience. Come and enjoy the ocean, the mountains, surf, snowboard, go to Disneyland, go shopping and the many other activities to do in Southern California. Many times other DCs comment, “If I had your chiropractic team members (CAs), I’d have a big practice too.” Well…my team goes to seminars and gets dipped regularly too. They get steeped in chiropractic philosophy so they have the same passion to save lives as we do. Don’t leave your CAs at home hungry, feed them The Story!

I look forward to seeing you all next year at the California Jam. Come and pay homage to those chiropractors that have paved the way for us to practice this beautiful art called chiropractic. Seize the day!!!! 25 years goes by real fast!
Telling it straight and rockin’ hard in California,
STOKING THE FIRE
Do you have that burning passion in your heart and soul to scream from the tallest mountain top about the benefits of a chiropractic lifestyle? A healthy lifestyle includes first and foremost specific chiropractic care from womb to tomb. Do you believe every person on earth should benefit from subluxation based chiropractic care for greater neurological expression and obvious life extension, both quality and quantity of life? Of course we must thoroughly educate our people on the many benefits of chiropractic adjustments but we must also inform them on the devastating effects of vertebral subluxation. Does your daily table talk focus on continued education on all aspects of a healthy lifestyle? Often times I get called out as a mixer because I also discuss the benefits of nutrition, exercise, positive auto suggestion and appropriate sleep patterns. B.J. Palmer didn’t practice in an era where people ate garbage and trash, were sedentary, watched T.V., and were under the stress that people of our office experience today. We are on a massive mission to educate our people on all aspects of health with, of course, subluxation awareness being our first and foremost priority.
The question is how do you keep the fire continually stoked so that you are continually on a rampage to spread the word? The answer for me is to continually get “dipped and seeped” in chiropractic. I’ve always loved going to seminars to sharpen the saw and to hang out with other lovers of this beloved profession. The last article I wrote titled Carpe Diem, I credited Drs. Sid and Nel Williams of Dynamic Essentials for initially igniting my fire. I would also like to give deserving appreciation and massive thanks to my mentors, Dr. Fred and Sue Schofield. We have trained with them on a monthly basis which helped transform my practice and self confidence. Dr. Fred is one of the greatest motivators in our profession and if you haven’t attended one of their trainings, I highly encourage it. In addition to seminars I also love to read books which help me achieve higher levels of success in all aspects of my practice and life.
I enjoy reading the green books, the bible, Dr. Fred Barge’s books and any books that primarily focus on healthy living. Turn off the T.V. and program your mind for success. Listening to C.D.’s, tapes and watching dvd’s are other methods I utilize to keep the blow torch burning.
With all this information burning in your gut it will not only improve your table talk, but it will also motivate you to develop various workshops for you to teach in your office and in your community. Workshops on Nutrition, Exercise, Stress Reduction, Vaccines, Natural Childbirth and Women’s Health are a few of the seminars we continually offer in and out of the office. All workshops discuss the benefits of chiropractic in a balanced lifestyle.
Do you have a shortage of new patients? Well…go tell the story with a little extra spizz. Get pissed off about the state of health in this country. Get dipped regularly. We have Dead Chiropractic Society (DCS) meetings, once a month in my office in Newport Beach, California.
Keeping the trust scared and on fire. Rocking hard in California!
With Much Love,
SACRED TRUST
One of my favorite epigrams by B.J. Palmer, D.C. is, “Don’t take yourself too damn seriously.” I live and breathe this 24/7, 365, 120. I do however, take chiropractic very damn seriously. I often worry the principle of chiropractic will be diluted and lost as our great profession progresses. We must honor our history and those that came before us who suffered severe persecution and dearly paid the price so that we could practice this wonderful art, science, and philosophy. I worry that the philosophy of chiropractic is not embraced to the extent that it should. I often try to help students by reminding them of the laws and tenets which have withstood the test of time. Many of the students are all ears and a few shun the message saying that we must move on and progress scientifically. Many have entered our profession for all the wrong reasons, mainly money and quite possibly because they thot being a chiropractor means they could emulate allopathy. Lost values and morals in our country and in our profession are due to our dilution and greed. Did the chiropractors of the past do it for money? No, they did it for the principle.
I often hear from others we must give up on the “subluxation theory” and move on, they question the science behind our theory. Well, the science is there, just read the work of Chestnut, Harrison, Pettibon, and Murphy, just to name a few. Practice this great art for 25 years and you’ll see the magic and miracles of an adjustment in your own clinical settings. Are you adjusting children? When is the right age to receive a scientific specific adjustment? Must we wait for a person to demonstrate symptoms before we adjust? This is so allopathic!!! How much science do you need? Where’s the science on brushing and flossing of teeth? It’s all common sense; you see a person lives at a higher level of homeostasis without nerve interference (subluxation). As B.J. Palmer, D.C. stated, “Common sense is not that common.”
Yes, I am a very straight chiropractic thinker but I do heavily educate my people in my practice on all issues of comprehensive health and wellness. Yes, I realize there are many efficacious therapies but I also realize this is not chiropractic but only adjunctive procedures to palliate the suffering of those that present to our offices. Many of these procedures are only performed to more profitably bill insurance companies.
One of the greatest attributes my father taught me growing up as a kid was a great work ethic, but is it really work? My motto is “work hard, play harder.” Yes, I’ve been blessed to have traveled extensively across the globe surfing and snowboarding. I’m also vigilant at work continually telling the story every day I breathe to save. Doesn’t everyone deserve chiropractic? I’m often called a workaholic by many of my colleagues but I am truly passionate about what I do, which is adjusting and teaching others. I want this world to know the truth about chiropractic and live a healthy lifestyle not only for better health, but also for true life extension. The only fountain of youth I know of resides within and we chiropractors call it innate intelligence. God needs no help, just no interference.
My mission with my physical life on this planet is to ensure that the world hears our great message. My mission on this great planet is also to live and breathe the words of B.J. Palmer, D.C. “My illustrious father placed this trust in my keeping, to keep it pure and unsullied or defamed. I pass it on to you to protect as he would have you do…for you have in your possession a sacred trust. Guard it well.” Yes, I will guard it well. Yes, I will stand up for the principle until the day I leave this physical plane (and I’m not going away for a long long time).
I encourage you all to come to the California Jam and celebrate CHIROPRACTIC and experience the “DCS Experience.” We must show respect and pay homage to the great chiropractors that came before us. Do not let OUR philosophy rust. Come and hang out with your brothers and sisters of our great profession on March 12-13, 2010 in Orange County, California. I promise we won’t let you down. Please come and help us with our mission to spread the word globally.
Enuff said, guarding it well.
Rockin’ hard in California,
P.S. I would like to thank and honor one of my greatest mentors, the late Dr. Fred Barge, D.C., for passing this sacred trust unstained and unsullied to me.
