As a young kid I was introduced to the profession of Chiropractic by my two aunts, Mary Jane and Imelda Mirasol, who work in a Chiropractic office. Every year I would go down to California to visit my family for the summer and a couple times a week we would all go to get adjusted at Dr. Kimes' office. Having a general idea of what Chiropractic is all about, I went to get adjusted on a daily basis which made me feel better. It really made me think about what I wanted to be when I grow up. I was amazed how an adjustment can start a process to a better health. Not many people have the awareness and knowledge of what Chiropractic can do for one's health. I realized then, I wanted to be in that profession where I can help and educate others to a healthy style of living. I had a conversation with my Auntie Jane and Uncle Bill and told them that I had an interest to become a Chiropractor. They told me if I was interested I should come to Cal Jam 2009. I attended the event where I listened to numerous guest speakers. Listening to the speakers; what they do and how many lives they helped with chiropractic made me realize how much more being a Chiropractor meant to me. I learned where Chiropractic came from, who started it, the first person to be properly adjusted, the philosophy of it, and how much it has helped many lives. All the speakers inspired me to learn and gain knowledge about the world of Chiropractic. I greatly appreciated the opportunity from all of the speakers for giving me a better vision of where Chiropractic is, where it is going, and keeping the vision alive for future Chiropractors. I also would like to give a special "THANK YOU" to my Auntie Jane and Uncle Bill for the opportunity to attend an inspiring event. I hope to attend another CAL JAM event in the future.

Thank you so much for another incredible chiropractic event. Last year you inspired me to really dive into the philosophy. This year was just as powerful. I'm already pre-paid for next year too!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your words on Saturday, especially about "burning the boats" I have plenty of boats. Unfortunately, my clinic has turned into a massage center that adjusts people and I was sick to my stomach on Saturday thinking of the dis-service I was doing to my patients. I have so much more to offer than a lame massage! Its stupid, but easy which is why I got sucked in. No more!
- 1. I'm firing my office manager. She doesn't really like Chiropractic
- 2. I'm eliminating massage/pilates. No more, I've had enough!
- 3. I'm hiring Jon Baker as my coach. I'm going all cash, all Chiropractic. Flow Love Baby!
- 4. Attend DCS more often, learn adjusting techniques from the masters. Become a guru.
For the past 5 years I've tried telling the story of Chiropractic, but also addressed symptoms, I offered massage and you can't do both, patients won't get it.
My goal next year is to get 100 patients to attend Cal Jam, how cool is that?
I'm beginning to feel like a Chiropractor again! It feels great. Thanks for awakening that in me. Today is the first day of my new career… As a CHIROPRACTOR!

As I fly from Orange County to Sacramento, I just have to express my sincere appreciation for the truly inspiring Saturday. All I can say is, "WOW!" It has been a very long time since have been in the dynamic presence of the passion of Chiropractic.
I attended my first DE in the fall of 1987, as a CA. Little did I know how far reaching that small thing would be in my life and what a big thing it would be to literally thousands. I heard Jim Sigafoose, Fred Barge and Sid Williams. They made a huge impact. My doctor gave me a Green Book and assigned chapters to read and we discussed them. By the summer of 1988, I found myself on the way to Davenport and enrolled at Palmer. While I was in school, I became a chiropractic sponge. The academics came easy to me, I was on a quest of purpose and sought all the philosophy I could find. I lived on a farm in Bettendorf, Iowa. My chiropractic partner, who later became my husband, and four friends held "philosophy nights" in our "philosophy barn". We would meet in the loft of the barn and invite the great minds in chiropractic that were visiting the campus. In small forums, we were privileged to personally speak and hear the words of wisdom directly from the great leaders…Sid Williams, Reggie Gold, Galen Price, Virgil Strang, Jim Sigafoose and many other Giants. What an honor to be in their presence. Palmer for us was the connection to the philosophy that gave life to the science and art of our profession.
When I left davenport in 1991, I left the microcosm of the fountainhead. I found the world, especially California, was so far from the source of philosophy and I felt a void in my spirit. As 16 years in practice have progressed, I have felt myself called back to the fountainhead to be re-baptized in the water of philosophy. I have sought to fill this chasm. It was not until this weekend that I found it. It is comforting to know it is here in California and easy to reach.
While I was in school, I always felt a sense of regret that I missed knowing and learning from the great Mentors like BJ and Gonstead. I felt fortunate to hear of these leaders and the chiropractic "folklore" directly from the mouths of those who had met and learned from these pioneers of our profession. I cherished the words and respected the opportunity to shake hands of these men. As these leaders began to pass, I became acutely aware of the awe inspiring class of Palmer Graduates that ushered forth the next "generation" of chiropractic leaders. Is it any wonder these giants all graduated together and had been directly schooled by BJ. I have made it a purpose in my career to learn and meet all of these men, some of whom have passed and some still grace us with their lives…Sid, Reggie, Karl Parker, Charlie Ward, Chuck Gibson, Kirby Landis, just to name a few. The last several years as I watch these men, I have wondered, "who will bring the spirit to the next generation?" Who will guard and protect and keep the true, unsullied spirit of chiropractic alive?
Well, this weekend I got the answer to those questions. You assembled the speakers whom I feel are the contemporary giants of out profession. It was refreshing to see this IS my generation. I thought, how great it is to see young doctors speak in the old wisdom. How refreshing and encouraging for our chiropractic young to see young docs steeped in the tradition. I fear sometimes our young will not listen to the old. Your energy, your enthusiasm, I am sure you inspire the young and that is truly what we need to have our profession survive as the great masters have intended.
I sincerely thank you for putting on a tremendous program. I am sorry that auditorium was not sold out as it should have been. It is unfortunate that those who knew were there and it was those who were not there who needed it most. I pledge to spread the word and bring my friends. As a California Chiropractor, you know out CE does not leave a lot of room for the philosophy. With required units as part of our hours, by the time you get your 4 hours of technique, 5 hours of x-ray, you attend seminars that assist you in running the business of chiropractic, you meet with your personal coach, you manage a small business, you care for your personal health and your family and you nurture your patients, it is a challenge to find the time for philosophy. Only those who recognize that the philosophy is the center of the universe make the time to pursue it.
Thank you so much for your undying dedication to chiropractic, your passion for chiropractic and your enthusiasm for our profession. I know I have seen the next generation of chiropractic giants this weekend. I feel BJ would be proud to know the future of chiropractic is in your hands. You are amazing! Don't change a thing and I look forward to next year! The darkness no longer need be cursed, as you have lit more than just one candle and the future is bright. This weekend will change the lives of millions.
